Weekly Update August #4

Ahoy, intrepid explorers! This past week was great for dolphin sightings, and we’re excited to share the highlights with you! We are the most successful dolphin watching boat in Lisbon, with 47 moons (aye, 3 years and 8 months) with only 2 failed ocean tours. We found at least a second group in all but one of the dolphin tours.

For the bird watchers
We’ve seen: Cory’s Shearwater, Storm petrel, Northern Gannet and Great Skua.
Tour stats

1 tours had a rating of 4, 3 tours had a rating of 3

  • Average distance travelled: 11 leagues (aye, 64kms) round trip.
  • Average time at Sea: 2h46
  • Average souls per tour: 9 guests
  • Seasickness cases: 1 but with the breakfast saved.
  • Average Sea state:  sea state 0.
Looking ahead
Next week begins poor sea seas until Wednesday the 2nd when very good seas settle in for the rest of the week! Wind is only forecasted for Monday the 7th

Ahoy, intrepid explorers! This past week was great for dolphin sightings, and we’re excited to share the highlights with you! We are the most successful dolphin watching boat in Lisbon, with 47 moons (aye, 3 years and 8 months) with only 2 failed ocean tours. We found at least a second group in all dolphin tours.
This week’s sightings
      • 1 dolphin species spotted: common dolphin
      • No whale watching this week…
      • And the Tagides group has not been spotted for 15 days.. So be aware of those party boats selling river cruises with dolphins, there haven’t been dolphins in the river.
For the bird watchers
We’ve seen: Cory’s Shearwater, Storm petrel and Northern Gannet.

      • Average distance travelled: 10 leagues (aye, 56kms) round trip.
      • Average time at Sea: 2h40
      • Average souls per tour: 9 guests

Looking ahead
Next week begins rough… with the incoming storm Vitor(?) coming to our shores Tomorrow, Sunday the 23rd and still troubling Monday the 24th with rain, wind and waves. Tuesday the 25th should have the week’s best weather, followed by windy and rainy conditions for the following 2 days. Friday the 28th looks promising and the weekend it only needs the wind to soften a little. Specially with the Tagides in the river these days look well within reach. Better days shall come on Thursday the 3rd & onward.

      • No whale watching this week…
      • And the Tagides group has not been spotted for 8 days.. So be aware of those party boats selling river cruises with dolphins, there haven’t been dolphins in the river.

We’ve seen: and Northern Gannet.

      • Average distance travelled: 10 leagues (aye, 57kms) round trip.
      • Average time at Sea: 2h35
      • Average souls per tour: 3 guests
      • Seasickness cases: 0.
      • Average Sea state:  sea state 2.
Looking ahead
Next week grants good seas until Wednesday the 19th. Thursday the 20th and Friday the 21st look too windy to venture into the ocean, may the Tagides be waiting in the river. Saturday the 22nd Sunday the 23rd may yet bring fair seas again.

We’ve seen: Cory’s Shearwater, Storm petrel, Northern Gannet and Balearic Shearwater.

  • Average distance travelled: 9 leagues (aye, 55kms) round trip.
  • Average time at Sea: 2h43
  • Average souls per tour: 8 guests
  • Seasickness cases: 2 but with the breakfast saved.
  • Average Sea state:  sea state 2.

 

Looking ahead
Next week brings poor sea conditions until the weekend, with Sunday the 9th having the best sea conditions of the week. The rest of the days will be totally dependant on the presence of the river group.

  • Average distance travelled: 9 leagues (aye, 53kms) round trip.

  • Average souls per tour: 8 guests
  • Seasickness cases: 0.
  • Average Sea state:  sea state 1.

 

Looking ahead
Next week brings fair morning seas through Saturday the 1st. The weekend may bring winds stronger than we would wish, yet the river-folk should help us keep the tours going.

We’ve seen: Cory’s Shearwater, Northern Gannet, Balearic Shearwater and European shag.
Tour stats
  • On average the tours rated 3.4 stars on our scale ***
  • 1 tours had a rating of 5, 5 tours had a rating of 3
  • Average distance travelled: 11 leagues (aye, 64kms) round trip.
  • Average time at Sea: 2h42
  • Average souls per tour: 7 guests
  • Seasickness cases: 2 with 1 breakfast lost to the sea.
  • Average Sea state:  sea state 2.
Looking ahead
Next week brings fair sea conditions until Thursday the 23rd with Tuesday the 21st and Wednesday the 22nd with the best spotting conditions! From Saturday the 25th to Wednesday the 29th it seems tours will have to be restricted to the river. We’ll have to check the forecast closer to the these dates..

We found at least a second group in all but one of the dolphin tours.
This week’s sightings
      • No whale watching this week… but a whale was found in the area, we just run out of time.
      • And the Tagides group has been spotted 4 times in the river.
For the bird watchers
We’ve seen: Cory’s Shearwater, Northern Gannet, Balearic Shearwater and Great Skua.

1 tours had a rating of 4, 1 tours had a rating of 2

  • Average distance travelled: 13 leagues (aye, 75kms) round trip.
  • Average time at Sea: 2h58
  • Average souls per tour: 7 guests
  • Seasickness cases: 2 but with the breakfast saved.
  • Average Sea state:  sea state 2.
Looking ahead
Next week brings fair sea conditions in the morning, very poor conditions in the afternoons. Thursday the 9th is looking the worst day, relying heavily on the river group.. And Saturday the 11th to Wednesday the 15th are looking the best days.

Next week brings very good sea conditions for Tuesday the 23rd and Wednesday the 24th , Thursday the 25th isn’t looking good and quite fair seas for Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th. Sunday might have a window in the morning, but conditions will deteriorate until the end of the week…

Weekly Update June #1

No tours this past week. The few fair days, had too few bookings.

Looking ahead
From Monday the 8th to Wednesday the 10th, the sea turns poor, shrinking our search area and leaving us to lean upon the river group… Who have shown themselves quite often, these past days. From Thursday the 11th to Sunday the 14th the mornings promise good & worthy seas once more! Next week seems wind will cut the search area shorter, but tours shall continue.
