Originally called Zarco’s Partol, this tour is usually open in the afternoon of Spring-Summer months, when the dolphins visit the Tagus River. Very convenient for those that can’t go for the longer tour in the Ocean, due to sea sickness, kids under 6 years old, or adults with back problems.
Always check the day on the booking this tour is dependant of having dolphins in the river.
The tour can be divided in 3 parts:
River search
- We’ll depart from Doca de Santo Amaro, just under the bridge.
- We’ll start by looking for dolphins in the Tagus river.
Search & Sightseeing
- We’ll start searching upriver, but it depends of where we know the dolphins might be
- We’ll stop in all monuments and point of interst in the upriver side and start going downriver
- We’ll search for the dolphins, starting on the south river side. You’ll enjoy a quite unique perspective of the city skyline at the distance, as we travel towards the Sea
- If sea conditions allow, we’ll go all the way to the river mouth to meet the Ocean. Turning back we’ll pass by the main monuments with short and interesting facts.
Dolphin Encounter
- The sighting can occur anywhere along the planned path, but usually in the areas close to the Sea.
- We’ll try to stay away from other boats and have consistent steering that encourage dolphins to stay close to us. We’ll let you know the group structure, their habits and behaviours.
- After you having your moment looking at dolphins, we’ll teach you to observe them, you’ll see them in a different way!
Remember, this tour is a standardised route in the river Tagus, if dolphins aren’t visiting the river, we’ll not go after them in the Ocean. Usually if this tour is open, it means that Ocean conditions aren’t good to go out and we have reports that dolphins are visiting the river (Fev-Aug). The best tour to meet the dolphins is the Lisbon Dolphins Experience.
