Weekly Update January #4

In the past week we found dolphins in all of the dolphin watching tours, 379 days since the last failed ocean tour.
We sighted 1 dolphin species, the common dolphin.
On average, we had 8 guests per dolphin watching tour and 2 seasickness cases. But we managed to save the breakfast!
Sea state was on average sea state 2 and the average tour ranking was 3 out of 5.
This following week we will be doing some maintenance and upgrades to our boat. Tours will be conducted in different boats, without Francisco as your guide.
We plan to be fully operational from Wednesday 7th, onward!

Weekly Update January #1

This week we didn’t have any tour, we only had 2 days for good Sea conditions which did not had enough bookings to do a tour.

In the next week we expect bad sea condition again, with maybe good weather only on Sunday 14th and Monday 15th.

The oceanographic conditions are suitable for the dolphins to enter the River but it seems they didn’t arrive yet. When they do, sea conditions will not matter that much.

Weekly Update November #4

In the past week we found dolphins in all of the dolphin watching tours in Lisbon, 316 days since the last failed tour in Lisbon. However we did one tour in the south where we failed to find the resident population.
We sighted 1 dolphin species, the common dolphin. We also had harbour porpoises.

On average, we had 6 guests per dolphin watching tour and 0 seasickness cases.
Sea state was on average sea state 2.

This following week we expect after Monday 27th we’ll close until the weekend. Tuesday 28th is almost good enough, but has been getting worse wind forecast as we get closer.

The wind regime of Friday onward should proportionate good conditions for dolphins to settle close to the coast. 

‘St. Martin’s Summer’ is next week!

This week the weather has been very bad, we will close the week with only one single tour on the past Tuesday.

The forecast looks better for the next week and all the way to 3rd week (w46)! Very light winds and gentle seas for Wednesday and the weekend! Thrusday 9th seems to be a hiccup of this trend, with rain and wind.

Weekly Update October #1

In the past week we found dolphins in all of the dolphin watching tours, 267 days since the last failed tour. We found at least a second species in all tours except for yesterday. We sighted 3 dolphin species, the common dolphin, striped dolphins and bottlenose dolphins. We we also had harbour porpoises. On average, we had 10 guests per dolphin watching tour and 2 seasickness cases, but with the breakfast saved. Sea state was on average sea state 0.

This following week we expect near perfect mornings until Friday. The forecast for Friday onward isn’t good, except for Saturday, which has near perfect conditions.

Weekly Update September #4

In the past week we found dolphins in all of the dolphin watching tours. We took half an hour or less to find the first dolphin group in 25% of the tours. We sighted 3 dolphin species, the common dolphin, striped dolphins and bottlenose dolphins. We we also had harbour porpoises, a Cuvier´s Beaked Whale and a Swordfish.

On average, we had 10 guests per dolphin watching tour and 2 seasickness cases. Sea state was on average sea state zero.

This following week we expect perfect mornings all week. Afternoons will become near perfect by the weekend, we will see if we can open afternoon tours.

Weekly Update June #4

In the past week we found dolphins in all of the dolphin watching tours. We took half an hour or less to find the first dolphin group in all tours and in 40% of them we found at least a second group.

The Lisbon&Dolphins afternoon tours, had 75% chance rate of seeing dolphins.

We sighted only one dolphin species, the common dolphin and we also had 2 sightings of Sei Whale. (picture)

On average, we had 8 guests per dolphin watching tour and 1 seasickness case. Sea state was on average sea state 1.

This following week we expect windy afternoons, we only will do tours in the morning. From Thrusday 29th to Friday 30th all tours will be on hold, as dolphins should not be entering the Tagus river and the windy and swell will be too disrupting.

 

Weekly report: June #2

 

In the past week we found dolphins in all of the dolphin watching tours. We took less than 1h to find the first dolphin group in 50% tours and in 50% of them we found at least a second group.

The Lisbon&Dolphins afternoon tours, had 35% chance rate of seeing dolphins, due to the high winds.

We sighted 2 dolphin species, the bottlenose dolphins were the most sighted species this week, followed by the common dolphin. In addition to dolphins we also have our first sighting of a Loggerhead Turtle and of a Sei Whale!! (picture)

On average, we had 8 guests per dolphin watching tour and 2 seasickness cases on the same tour, as it was just one day after the storm. Sea state was on average sea state 1.

We also found a dead young male bottlenose dolphin, and as these species are priority species for conservation in European Union, we towed him to land for the vets to collect samples. Hopefully these will give an idea why he died.

This following week we expect windy days starting on Tuesday 13th, then tours will be on hold until Thrusday as dolphins should be entering the Tagus river.
